Honest Elections.

Effective Government.

An Empowered Majority

Democracy Counts gives Americans the tools to verify their elections and the civic infrastructure to make their government work for the majority — not just the few.

Our mission: To empower Americans to verify the integrity of their elections and to restore genuine majority representation in American government.

What We Do

Two tools for one democracy.

Democracy Counts was founded on a simple premise: a functioning democracy requires both honest elections and responsive representatives. We work on both fronts — building technology that empowers citizens to verify their local elections, and building the civic infrastructure that gives the majority the power to elect representatives who actually serve them.

🗳️

Election Integrity

Our Actual Vote app gives ordinary Americans the ability to conduct genuine audit checks on their local election machinery — verifying results, building confidence where confidence is deserved, and generating data for challenges where it is not.

🏛️

Civic Infrastructure

Through the Middle Majority Movement, we are building the coordination tools that allow the civic organizations Americans already belong to — churches, unions, business groups, service clubs — to act together in the primary elections where congressional seats are actually decided.

⚖️

Nonpartisan by Design

Democracy Counts holds governance rights over the Middle Majority Movement, with veto power over any action that would compromise political neutrality. We work in red districts and blue districts. Our constituency is the American majority, regardless of party.

Our Technology

The Actual Vote App

Since 2020, the Actual Vote app has been used by dedicated volunteers in elections across the country to conduct independent audit checks of local election machinery. It is available in both the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Election integrity requires more than faith — it requires verifiable data. The Actual Vote app gives any citizen the ability to participate in that verification process, building justified confidence when elections are run well and providing documented evidence when they are not.

Free to download. Available nationwide. Used by volunteer election observers since 2020 to verify results at the precinct level and contribute to a national database of audited election data.

Our Civic Initiative

The Middle Majority
Movement

Democracy Counts is the founding nonprofit organization of the Middle Majority Movement — a civic initiative designed to give the moderate majority of Americans the tools to elect representatives who actually serve them, by organizing existing civic groups to coordinate in the primary elections where congressional seats are truly decided.

Seven percent of voters choose 87% of Congress.

Because of gerrymandering and low-turnout primaries, a small activated minority decides most congressional elections — while the majority sits on the sidelines. The Middle Majority Movement is building the strategy and the digital platform to change that, without changing a single law.

About

Founded to serve the republic.

Democracy Counts Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2016 and based in San Diego, California. EIN: 81-2822233.

Our work spans two complementary fronts: technology that empowers citizens to verify their elections, and civic infrastructure that gives the majority the power to elect representatives who serve them. Both are necessary conditions for a functioning democracy.

We are nonpartisan by mission and by governance structure. Our founding documents embed neutrality as a legal requirement, not merely a value statement.
